Chiang Mai
- Hotel Review (Thannatee Boutique Hotel): A beautiful small hotel with a nice pool area and good sized rooms. Very clean and good breakfast available, in a good location outside of the main part of Chiang Mai, but still close enough to walk. We would recommend this hotel.
- Favorite restaurant: David’s Kitchen – absolutely incredible meal and experience
- Favorite tourist attraction: Elephant sanctuary
- Favorite non-tourist attraction: Walking around the ‘trendy’ area outside of the main part of the city, by where we had brunch our first day
- Favorite dessert: Toffee pudding at David’s Kitchen
- Most memorable moment:
- Hillary & Mike- Elephant sanctuary and playing with Dumbo
- If we could do it over… we would plan the visit around the water festival that occurs there (we heard great things about it)
- If going, you must… visit an elephant sanctuary that treats the elephants well (no riding on them!) and book a reservation at David’s Kitchen
Bangkok
- Hotel Review (Chao Hostel): Only con was that there was no breakfast, other than that it was great! Private rooms are very large, they have laundry machines to use, it is in a great central location, and the hotel itself is very cool. Definitely recommended!
- Favorite restaurant: GAGGAN!!! For a more ‘everyday’ option, Sunrise Taco in Terminal 21
- Favorite tourist attraction: Wat Pho and Wat Arun
- Favorite non-tourist attraction: Muay Thai training
- Favorite dessert: Gaggan’s version of a strawberry tart
- Most memorable moment:
- Hillary- Night eating at Gaggan
- Mike- Also Gaggan… but to get away from that for a second, I’ll also mention the Muay Thai
- If we could do it over… we would have made sure we could get to see the royal palace
- If going, you must… explore the city. walk the streets, and try a variety of restaurants (don’t feel like you have to stick to Thai food – it is a great place to try all kinds of restaurants)
River Kwai
- No full breakdown here, but we would definitely recommend spending time on the river if you visit Bangkok. We stayed in the River Kwai Jungle Rafts, and would highly recommend them.
